Troy Williams with MC Tess Tickle at tonight's contest Globetrotter Troy Williams has won the Mr Gay New Zealand 2014 title. The 33-year-old took out the contest at a busy Legend Bar in Auckland tonight, narrowly beating 23-year-old Aucklander Samuel Evans. Williams was born in Papakura but raised in Hawke’s Bay. He’s lived all over the world, but most recently worked as a lawyer in Sydney and London. “When in Australia I started to get more involved in the gay community, helping run various events and volunteering for things like Mardi Gras events,” he says in his bio. “Having recently returned to New Zealand to start a new career in medicine, I am keen to get involved in the New Zealand community as well and look forward to working with and getting to know all the other great ‘kiwifruits’.” Williams wins a trip to Rome to compete in Mr Gay World, which New Zealand has won for the past two years.
