GlamStand makes way for Rainbow Island

Sun 2 Feb 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Suzanne Paul and Miss Ribena will host Rainbow Island Vodka and candy floss, a Dolly Parton impersonator and the real Suzanne Paul are just some of the pieces of fabulousness that will be at GABA's "Rainbow Island" for the Auckland Pride Parade. The premium viewing section for the 22 February event on Ponsonby Rd has been reinvented from a GlamStand to "Uenuku Motu". Gay Auckland Business Association President Skot Barnett says it will offer so much more than just the Parade. "The reimagined venue boasts premium-views of the event where you can party the Parade away in a beautiful setting, together with fine food, a glamorous bar and all the amenities you need for a fun and comfortable Parade experience." It will have all-table, one-level seating means that everyone who visits will be a VIP with unobstructed views. There will also be reserved standing areas for those wanting to have a closer look from the barriers. Infomercial Queen Suzanne Paul will team up with own Miss Ribena to MC a fantastic pre-Parade entertainment line-up including DJ Wayne, Hilz, Vickie Moss, Nanu (as Lady of the Lakes), Emmerline (as Dolly Parton) and then guide revelers through the more than 50 entries taking part in the Parade itself. Sarah Lambourne and Michelle Maitland will also help out, while stage production manager Gloriousole is coming all the way from Hamilton to keep everything running to Drag Queen perfection. Tickets are $85 for GABA members and $95 for non-members from www.gaba.org.nz
