Wireless Nation's Tom Linn with Mr Gay NZ/World 2013 Chris Olwage A gay-run New Zealand company has stepped in to ensure the future of the Mr Gay New Zealand competition. After successive winners have struggled to secure major sponsorship each year, Wireless National has agreed to become the event’s principal sponsor. The company says it recognises that it is important for community organisation like Mr Gay New Zealand to have a continual supply of sponsorship. Last year Wireless Nation stumped up with funding for Mr Gay New Zealand Chris Olwage to get to Antwerp to compete, and he subsequently took out the Mr Gay World title. “Wireless Nation recognises that Mr Gay New Zealand has been an important part of the community and the level of engagements between Mr Gay New Zealand and the general public have been astounding,” it says in a statement. It says it’s also impressed by the fact two successive Mr Gay New Zealand winners have gone on to win the Mr Gay World title. GayNZ.com will have more details about the Mr Gay NZ 2014 competition soon.
