New gay show coming to Sky's SoHo

Sun 19 Jan 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

HBO's new gay series Looking is being fast-tracked by Sky TV and will premiere on subscription channel SoHo next week. The show is about "three thirty-something friends living in San Francisco explore the exciting, sometime overwhelming, options available to a new generation of gay men". It stars openly-gay actor and performer Jonathan Groff, who is best known on New Zealand screens for his role as Jesse St. James on Glee. Frankie J. Alvarez from Smash and Aussie actor Murray Bartlett play the other two main characters, Agustín and Dom. Variety says "it would be easy to mischaracterize this as another Queer as Folk, but the show quickly establishes a voice and characters that firmly stand on their own." The San Francisco Chronicle says it's like the "gay Sex and the City" and "a convincing, multidimensional portrayal not only of contemporary gay life but also of contemporary life in general". Its New Zealand premiere will be on SoHo on Thursday 23 January at 9PM, and Looking will be repeated throughout Friday.
