Jared Leto as Rayon Jared Leto has been nominated for an Oscar for his roles as a transgender woman in the film Dallas Buyers Club. While Leto is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, his co-star Matthew McConaughey is up for Best Actor in the film, where he plays an initially transphobic and homophobic straight man. When diagnosed as HIV positive he leads a bunch of misfits in a crusade to buy life-saving anti-viral medication. Judi Dench is among the Best Actress nominees for her role in the film Philomena, which includes a gay subplot. French Palme d’Or winning lesbian film Blue is the Warmest Colour will not be considered till next year's awards.
