File Photo Same-sex nuptials made up almost seven per cent of all marriages in New Zealand in the four months after marriage equality came into effect. Figures provided by the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages to the New Zealand Herald show there were 335 same-sex marriages from August 19 to December 19 last year. Of those, 178 were between women and 157 between men. There were also two marriages between people of what officials describe as ‘indeterminate’ gender. The marriages included 131 same-sex couples who did not live in New Zealand, making the proportion of marriages between New Zealand residing gay couples just under five per cent.
