Skjellerup waiting in hope of Olympic spot

Sun 12 Jan 2014 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Speed skater Blake Skjellerup is hoping to find out next week whether he will be able to once again live his dream of representing New Zealand at the Winter Olympics. After narrowly missing out on automatic qualifying, he is the first alternate for a spot at the games. Skjellerup has been an outspoken glbti rights advocate since he came out in 2010, just after he competed at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. If he makes it to gay rights repressing Russia for the Sochi games next month, he is vowing to take a stand by wearing a rainbow pin. Meanwhile he has appeared in CNN’s Journey of the Gay Athlete, which you can read more about here.
