Fancy three days by the pool at The Modern Honolulu? Auckland Pride needs a cross section of volunteers, with the exciting sweetener of all those who help out getting the chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii. Pride Festival Coordinator Julian Cook says the prize is a chance for the Auckland Pride Festival Trust to express its gratitude for the commitment and service provided by valued volunteers. Anyone who helps out in an official capacity during the Festival goes into the draw for the prize package which comes courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines. It includes return two return airfares to Hawaii and three nights at The Modern Honolulu in Oahu. The winner will be drawn at a special Volunteer Thank You Function at Poof Bar on Tuesday 25 February. Volunteers needed: Check-in Agents These volunteers will check in each Parade Participant on their arrival at the Parade set-up area. The role is to check that the float participants have registered, paid any applicable entry fee, that they have the required number of walking marshals and that the vehicle is approved to enter the parade route. South End street/North End street Coordinators These volunteers are required to assist the Logistic Coordinators in directing the floats and participants to the set-up and pack-down areas at the start and end of the parade. Check in Agents, Street Coordinators and Logistics Coordinators report to the Registration Coordinator. Stationary Marshals These roles require volunteers located at regular intervals along the entire parade route. The primary role is to mitigate injury and prevent crowd from moving onto the parade route slowing the parade or causing harm and injury. Stationary Marshals are complimented with trained Security Guards as and when required. You will also communicate with the general public answering questions and interacting, keeping the excitement and interest prior to the parade. Gap Marshals Gaps in the parade can disrupt the steady flow of the parade therefore this role is to minimize gaps and to ensure the flow of the Parade. Gap Marshals are stationed along the Parade route primarily on the traffic islands, they will provide the instructions to the participating parade groups. Both the Stationary Marshals and Gap Marshals report to the Stationary Marshal Coordinators on the day. The Volunteers who have these roles have the best seats in the house and have a VIP view of the Parade along the route. Stair Monitors will be required for a 3 hour shift, after which they will be free to enjoy the PROUD Party. Parade volunteers will receive first option on these roles.
