Maurice Williamson’s “big gay rainbow” speech has won New Zealand’s quote of the year. The National MP nabbed 38 per cent of the votes in the annual competition, run by Massey University, for his zinger during the marriage equality debate: “One of the messages that I had was that this bill was the cause of our drought. Well, in the Pakuranga electorate this morning it was pouring with rain.
