Gisborne: Couple admits beach killing

Tue 17 Dec 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Victim Amandeep Singh A Gisborne lesbian couple has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a man they beat to death on the beach, and each of the women jailed for more than eight years. They admitted killing Amandeep Singh, who went missing on New Year’s Day. The 22-year-old’s badly decomposed body was found in bushes on Kaiti beach on 24 January. Crystal Black, 26, and her partner Krystel Pokai, 25 have also pleaded guilty to charges of car conversion, theft of Singh's credit card, using a document to obtain an advantage, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. They have each been jailed for eight years and eight months. The couple reportedly insinuated Pokai would sleep with Singh, but when they drove to the beach in his car they beat him to death and dragged his body under bushes. Justice Heath is satisfied the couple’s intention “was ... to give Mr Singh a ‘good hiding’,” and there was not enough evidence of murderous intent.
