Fears for lesbian deported back to Uganda

Sat 14 Dec 2013 In: International News View at Wayback

A Ugandan lesbian who was sexually abused by her own uncle has been deported back to her home country by the UK. The group Gay Asylum UK is working with contacts in Uganda to find her and help her. It’s also appealing to Ugandan lgbti groups to help. The woman named only as Prossie is 20-years-old. Gay Asylum UK says her parents died young, and from age eight she was raped and sexually abused by her uncle. “She was taken out of school at 13 and after her sexuality was exposed when she was 15 she was moving about and living on the streets for much of the time,” it says. “She had a secret relationship with a married woman who got her a passport and an agent to take her to Britain in September 2010. “Since she arrived in the UK she has had several lesbian relationships.” The group says Prossie faces certain persecution and the likelihood of imprisonment and torture. “There is no family she can turn to for support or protection. “For now the Ugandan lgbt community is her family - until we can get her extradited back to the UK.”
