Xavier Bettel and Etienne Schneider The small nation of Luxembourg has elected the world’s third openly-gay Prime Minister, who is supported by a gay deputy. It’s the first time two openly-gay men have been at the helm of a nation. Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has been sworn in to head a coalition government with the Greens and Socialist parties. Head of the Socialist party Etienne Schneider is his deputy Prime Minister. The pair has promised marriage equality will happen next year.
