File photo The third edition of a British study shows the proportion of women who say they’ve had sex or sexual contact with another woman increased from less than four per cent in 1991, to 16 per cent in 2012. According to the latest National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, seven per cent of men reported having sex with another man, a figure which has remained pretty constant since the first survey. When asked whether the four-fold increase among women was real or an artefact of the survey, Lead author Professor Kaye Wellings told Pink News she thinks it’s too big to be simply an artefact of reporting. “We can see signs in the media that there have been changes in the representation of women. There have been celebrities who have apparently embraced same-sex experiences. We do see women kissing together and so on.”
