A Transgender Day of Remembrance service will be held at Hamilton’s Riff Raff statue on Sunday. Agender Waikato and Hamilton Pride are organising the event and are inviting all to join them in a stand against violence, bullying and discrimination. Transgender Day of Remembrance is on Wednesday, but services will be held all over the world throughout the week. From November 2012-2013, at least 238 transgender people across the globe met with violent deaths. Hamilton Pride says even today, the deaths of those based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. “Hamilton, the city with a statue of Riff-Raff in its CDB, will join in the world-wide commemoration and make a stand against violence and bullying.” It will begin at 7PM. There is a webcam at the statue so the service will be broadcast world-wide here A Transgender Day of Remembrance gathering has also been planned for Wellington’s Glover Park this Wednesday at 6PM. In Auckland, members of Transsexuals of New Zealand will get together for a coffee at Revel on K' Rd at 2PM. All are welcome.
