Trans victims of violence to be remembered

Sun 17 Nov 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A gathering will be held in a Wellington park on Wednesday to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance. All are welcome to the Agender-run service at 6PM this Wednesday in Glover Park, which is between Ghuznee and Garrett Sts, near Cuba Mall. Each year transgender communities worldwide hold such ceremonies to honour and remember transgender people who have lost their lives through violent crime. In its annual report, the group Transgender Europe reports 238 transgender people met violent deaths between 20 November 2012 and the start of this month. Brazil and Mexico had the highest tolls, while Honduras had the highest rate per population. If you are planning a Transgender Day of Remembrance service please email us at news@gaynz.com
