Homophobe Tamihere off air for rest of 2013

Mon 11 Nov 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

John Tamihere Acidic homophobe John Tamihere and his offsider Willie Jackson will be off the air for the rest of 2013. It comes after the pair described the actions of self-confessed rapists Roast Busters “mischief” on their Radio Live show. They also engaged in victim blaming in a conversation with a teenager who knew about the activities of the rape gang, asking her when she lost her virginity and labelled teenage girls “free and easy”. They say they deeply regret the comments and do not condone rape in any way. “We will be taking the next few weeks to review what happened last week with the management here, and agree what action needs to be taken,” a statement from the broadcasters reads. Tamihere has a history of getting under the skin of the gay community, spouting an endless stream of hatred on his show. In 2009 he characterised gay men as "bummers" and "homos" who "treat their bodies like fairgrounds". The former Labour MP has also consistently denigrated gay and lesbian colleagues.
