Westboro gets special front lawn drag show

Wed 30 Oct 2013 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

The viciously gay-hating Westboro Baptist Church has been treated to a drag show, which was performed from the Equality House across the road from its headquarters. Drag queens, DJs and clowns took over the lawn in front of the rainbow-painted house in Topeka, Kansas, which was bought and made over to take a stand against Westboro’s house and bigotry. “Drag Down Bigotry” was a fundraiser for Equality House’s owner Planting Peace, which is anti-bullying and pro human rights. Director Amelia Markham said the show was about communicating a message of celebration, “and the power of creativity to transcend the rigid gender structures of society that have oppressed the many who have never been able to feel honest or authentic in their existence.” Westboro responded by waving “God Hates Fags” signs from their compound.
