Putin claims gay people welcome at Sochi

Tue 29 Oct 2013 In: International News View at NDHA

Russian President Vladimir Putin has released a statement saying all people are welcome at the Sochi Winter Olympics, no matter what their sexuality. It comes after he signed a law banning homosexual "propaganda" and another which prevents gay people from adopting Russian children. Following intense global pressure he has told the International Olympic Committee: "We are doing everything, both the organisers and our athletes and fans, so that participants and guests feel comfortable in Sochi, regardless of nationality, race or sexual orientation.”
