Riotous gay writer David Sedaris will bring his speaking tour to Auckland in January. The American author has sold over seven million copies of his books Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim and has won numerous literary awards. Sedaris is known for irreverent his social critique and observations of the human condition. His latest book, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, debuted at number one on the New York Times best-seller list and among its many stories, touches on marriage equality. He writes: “States vote to take away my marriage rights, and even though I don't want to get married, it tends to hurt my feelings. I guess what bugs me is that it was put to a vote in the first place. If you don't want to marry a homosexual, then don't. But what gives you the right to weigh in on your neighbour's options? It's like voting whether or not redheads should be allowed to celebrate Christmas.” An Evening with David Sedaris will be held at The Civic Theatre on Sunday 26 January and tickets are on sale here
