Sacked gay worker to lead McD's protest

Sat 26 Oct 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Sean Bailey A protest will be held at an Auckland McDonald’s today over the sacking of gay whistleblower Sean Bailey. Bailey drew global headlines in May when he revealed he’d been told to ‘act less gay’ by a McDonald’s manager. He told GayNZ.com Daily News he was just being himself at work one day when the manager approached him and said if he acted gay on his shift, he’d discipline him. The union delegate has since been sacked from his job at Quay St McDonald’s, which the Unite Union claims was because he stood up against the company over breaks for workers. A protest is being held outside McDonald’s on Queen St at 3PM today.
