Same-sex couples planning to get hitched are being promised a massive range of friendly exhibitors at the first-ever Gay Wedding Show. Endorsed by both marriage equality champion Louisa Wall and embattled Auckland Mayor Len Brown, organisers say the function at Ellerslie Event Centre on 10 November is a celebration of marriage for all couples regardless of their sexuality. It will feature more than a hundred exhibitors from across the country. Marketing and Events Manager Peter Clark says it sets out to be the most accessible and informative event of its kind, offering every style of couple a high profile event, promoting equality and acceptance within the wedding industry. On the back of his support for Auckland Pride Festival, Len Brown says he also welcomes the Gay Wedding Show. "Auckland is known for celebrating diversity and connecting our communities through hugely popular festivals and events," he says. "The gay community brings so much vibrancy to our region, and contributes mightily to our vision of making Auckland the world's most livable city." Marriage Equality Bill sponsor Louisa Wall says it's a fantastic development and she is excited about the show. "Its rationale of supporting equality throughout the wedding market by creating a specific experience for LGBTI couples, family and friends in our wedding experience is something to be proud of," the Labour MP says. "I encourage all of us to attend this event in the promotion of marriage as a community celebration which aims to be the most accessible and informative event of its kind." Wall has thanked those in the wedding industry taking part, saying their participation is showing support and leadership. Peter Clark says everyone is welcome. "Couples will be sure to find everything they possibly need in this wedding extravaganza in a show that promotes equality and simply supports all couples celebrating love."
