Pope Francis blesses gay group in letter

Sat 12 Oct 2013 In: International News View at NDHA

Pope Francis Italian media is reporting Pope Francis has blessed a group of gay Catholics. La Repubblica newspaper says the blessing came in response to a letter from the gay and lesbian group Kairos of Florence. They asked the Pope to show openness and to enter into dialogue, noting that closure to discussion “always feeds homophobia.” They received a personal response, and the leader told La Repubblica “no one had ever even given a nod of response” before. Kairos also said they had received a letter from the Vatican Secretariat of State, which informed them that Pope Francis “really enjoyed” their letter to him and the way it was written, calling it an act of “spontaneous confidence.” One Kairos member said Pope Francis had also assured the group of his blessing. In July Pope Francis told reporters that gay people should not be judged or marginalised and should be integrated into society. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?” he said.
