A Maketu woman says her hen is transitioning into a rooster, something Google has informed her happens to one in 10,000 hens. Kay Eagle has told the Bay of Plenty Times 18-month-old Ginger has been changing “from a docile chook that lays an egg a day, into an aggressive, crowing creature” which is growing spurs. "I'm a trained English teacher but work packing avocados. I told my workmates about the changes happening to Ginger. They reckon 'Why can't you have transgender poultry, just like you have transgender humans?',” she says. "I've Googled 'hen to rooster' and read it happens to one in 10,000 hens.''
