The NZ AIDS Foundation has paid tribute to Aunty Wai Mason, its kaumatua and adviser, who died at the weekend. Mason was involved with the NZAF for two decades and was a member of the Maori advisory group to the NZAF Board. She was active in taking HIV prevention programmes into Maori communities. “Aunty Wai leaves an amazing legacy as a long-time supporter of the NZAF, particularly her commitment to opening doors for Maori to speak about Takatāpui and HIV," says NZAF Executive Director Shaun Robinson. "She was compassionate and kind, with a wonderful sense of humour and a loving smile. Her love for people touched all who met her and she will be fondly remembered by the NZAF whanau and the wider community.”
