Still no complaint received in Findlay case

Mon 30 Sep 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Paul Findlay Christchurch police say they became aware of the controversy surrounding gay political contender and youth group board member Paul Findlay after an allegation had appeared on a blog site and was subsequently reported by the media. Findlay has been accused on the blog of having cybersex with an underage youth and photos of him naked and erotically engaged have been posted. Findlay immediately resigned from the board of Q-topia glbti youth group and has stood down as a People's Choice Labour candidate in the local body elections. A spokesperson for Q-topia says he understands Findlay was using a phone app which provided connections through a R18 website. He has speculated that there may be an entrapment aspect to the case. As of midday today no official complaint has yet been received by the police who became aware of the allegation "after it appeared in the media," according to Christchurch Police District Communications Manager Stephen Hill. Hill says the police are continuing with an assessment to see if there is any indication of criminal offending which would warrant a formal investigation.
