A last minute change of plans will see the Winter Wedding prize for Gay Ski Week delayed by almost a week so a replacement gay couple can be married in Queenstown. Glbti couples from around New Zealand and Australia entered the competition but the first couple to be drawn as winners had to pull out at the last minute, understood to be due to an illness in the family. "It was a bit of a nightmare," says Gay Ski Week co-organiser Sally Whitewoods. "The first couple accepted but then they had to pull out." Whitewoods says she was lucky that they had drawn the first couple from around ten of the best entries received so it was just a matter of doing another draw and hoping the next couple could still take up the prize. While the original ceremony was scheduled to happen in the final days of Gay Ski Week, the new couple, two women from Australia, will be married next Thursday. The delay is caused by their need to quickly put travel plans in place as they will be coming over especially for the wedding and are hoping to arrange for family and friends to accompany the. Also important was the need for the couple to apply for a marriage license three days before their ceremony can take place.
