A new theatre development programme, providing an opportunity for glbti writers to create short theatrical works expressing unique Kiwi voices, is being launched today in Auckland. Called the Legacy Project it's a initiative of theatre writer and director Bruce Brown who believes there's "a real lack of quality gay stories being told from a Kiwi perspective in Auckland theatre." Brown says he was driven to launch the project, which will see short format submissions from writers and directors workshopped in November, after seeing a variety of productions at February's inaugural Pride Festival." He says he wanted to take this experience and passion for theatre to create a programme that would nurture the development of LGBT storytellers within theatre. Writer and director submissions are open until the October 31st and criteria are listed on the project's website. Brown says six selected scripts will be worked up and performed as party of the Pride Festival 2014. Those who can offer technical or backstage support are also being asked to register their interest through the website.
