Fionnaigh McKenzie and her partner Ellen Murray Christian clerics who are happy to marry same-sex couples have been listed on a new resource started by a Wellington queer woman. Presbyterian church-goer Fionnaigh McKenzie says she was "tired of reading headlines about churches saying ‘no’ to same-sex couples. I know that many ministers and churches are saying ‘yes’, so I decided to gather details about them." “My partner and I had a ceremony in our church to celebrate our love. It was very moving to feel the support of our church community wrap around us that day," McKenzie says. "I want other couples to know that whatever their sexuality or gender identity might be, they can have a spiritual ceremony if they want to.” Wellington's St Andrews on the Terrace The site, yes2love, lists both ministers and churches, although only three churches are currently listed. They spread from Kerikeri south to Dunedin. While the site initially has predominantly Protestant clerics, "That reflects my own connections as a member of a protestant church... I would love to hear from others and will include supporters from other faiths if they get in touch with me," McKenzie says.
