Wall confirms support for Cunliffe

Wed 28 Aug 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Louisa Wall Lesbian Labour MP Louisa Wall has confirmed her support for David Cunliffe in the race to lead the party into the next election. One of Wall's fellow Rainbow Labour MPs, Grant Robertson quickly emerged as a frontrunner in the race to the top, with Robertson and Cunliffe now the two most serious contenders. "My support for David is based on his ability to lead Labour to victory in 2014 based on his commitment to Labour principles, his ability to articulate those principles and policy and his experience and track record that will instill the public's confidence in Labour," Wall, who was glimpsed in the group flanking Cunliffe during his candidacy announcement, says. Wall and Robertson's fellow lgbti MP, Maryan Street, has declared her support for Robertson. Labour choses its leader through an election, to be held on September 15, in which party members, the parliamentary caucus and affiliated unions can vote. Of Robertson and Cunliffe, Cunliffe appears to be ahead of Robertson according to informal polling.
