'Diamond Lil' dies, relatives sought

Marcus Craig... Marcus Craig, the gay performer behind the feathered and be-jeweled 1970s drag character Diamond Lil, has died in Queensland, aged 73, last weekend. Craig, born David Lennard, was a staple of the Auckland Cabaret scene, most often described to the general public as a 'female impersonator.' He was a protege of club entrepreneur Phil Warren who featured Craig's outrageous Diamond Lil at his Ace of Clubs venue. He also appeared on a number of television variety shows. ...as Diamond Lil The performer suffered from ill health in recent years and was increasingly immobile. He is understood to have died from a heart condition complicated by diabetes and possibly emphysema. No next of kin have so far been located so the Queensland Coroner has appointed long-time Brisbane friend Kevin Hodges to act for Craig.
