File Photo Creators of a new Same Sex Wedding Directory say uptake has been slow; leading them to believe that while the law may be changing soon, attitudes will take longer. The Same Sex Wedding Directory has been created to list gay-friendly wedding businesses ahead of new marriage equality laws coming into effect on Monday. The company says it aims to provide gay and lesbian couples a place to plan their same sex wedding “with businesses they know will be professional and accepting of their sexual orientation”. The initiative is being developed internationally too, with the USA edition opening for listings in the first week of August. Australian, European and French editions are also planned for launch in 2013. Creators say the New Zealand edition has proven very popular in some areas, but uptake is slower in the southern regions. “The law may be changing soon but attitudes will take longer,” its creators say. “Many New Zealand businesses have begun promoting their gay friendly status to the world. But in terms of the overall New Zealand wedding industry, uptake has been slow.”
