NZ 'disagrees' with Russian laws - Key

Tue 13 Aug 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

John Key The Prime Minister has broken his silence on Russia’s anti-gay laws. John Key has today told media that Foreign Minister Murray McCully has let Russian authorities know that we totally disagree with the laws, which ban 'gay propaganda'. He also spoke about the Sochi Winter Olympics, where openly-gay New Zealand athlete Blake Skjellerup will compete. “It’s our view that New Zealanders, irrelevant of what their sexual preferences are, should be able to go and compete in the Winter Games. We’ve made point that clear," Key said. He added that New Zealand selects people based on their 'ability on the sports field', not on what their sexual preferences are.
