The winners of a radio station’s double same-sex wedding are a lesbian couple from the Bay of Islands and a gay couple from Christchurch. Jess and Rachel will be wed alongside Richard and Richard at the Rotorua Museum on 19 August. They are the joint-winners of The Edge’s Same-Sex Wedding. Jess and Rachel met while travelling in the South Island, and fell so hard that Jess surprised Rachel by following her to Manchester. Rachel told GayNZ.com they were “two women, madly in love, and would relish the opportunity to marry on the first day sex same marriage becomes legal”. She added: “Jess and I have the same dreams and aspirations that many couples have, no matter what their sexual orientation or nationality: we want to be married, raise a family and live happily ever after.” The couple known as “Big Richard and Little Richard” or just “the Richards” has been together seven years and have said they would “love to share in New Zealand's historical moment by being one of the first gay couples to be legally married.”
