Awhina Centre remaining closed for the week

Wed 24 Jul 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s Wellington Awhina Centre is being assessed following the quakes, and will remain closed for the rest of the week. The NZAF says it expects the Willis St hub to open for business as usual on Monday 29 July, but will issue an update if this changes. It urges anyone who needs its services to call 0800 80 2437 for 24hr information on HIV, or to speak with someone from another NZAF Centre. LILAC, the lesbian library, is on the floor above the Awhina Centre, but is fine. It didn’t lose a single book from its shelves, which are anchored on the walls, in the earthquakes. It will be open as usual from 5.30PM-7.30PM tonight, on Thursday 11AM-2PM and Saturday 11 -2PM. The Wakefield St building which houses Gay Wellington’s helpline, Anvil House, has been checked and given the all-clear by an engineer.
