Auckland's Switch Bar will close its doors after tonight, with its owner saying he wants to concentrate on Family Bar across the road. Wayne Clark says sadly Switch just can't compete with Family when it comes to K' Rd patronage, and he wants to focus his efforts on the gay nightlife strip on the bigger and longer-running bar. Switch hostess Tess Tickle is urging people to pop up tonight for one last drink. "I'd like to thank all the staff, performers and patrons that have supported us over the last six months. Pop up for one last drink on the balcony with myself and the girls, hopefully one of the heaters will be working," Tess says. "But as they say one door closes another opens, so all is not lost......watch this space." On that note Clark has revealed to GayNZ.com Daily News that he has bought back Lola Bar on Ponsonby Rd, which he says will be refurbished and turned into a gay venue once more. "It's going to be amazing," he promises. "It will be an incredible space."
