US: lesbian couple bashed in hate attack

Fri 12 Jul 2013 In: International News

Police have arrested one man, and are hunting nine others, over a homophobic attack on a lesbian couple in Chicago. The men taunted them for being lesbians and took turns punching and kicking them late on Saturday night. A man who they knew started following them and harassing them about their masculine clothing. Others joined in and swore at them, before they were assaulted by ten men. “It was punches, kicks, everything being thrown at us,” one of the women, 23, has told the Chicago Tribune. “We just held each other until somebody said, ‘Here come the police.’ ” Police have labelled the attack a hate crime.
