A Christchurch lesbian couple is one of the final two teams in the 2013 edition of Mitre 10 Dream Home. Jay Blair and Amanda Fail will put their DIY and design skills to the test as Team Black, getting the chance to build and decorate a brand new home. Fail, 31 is a hairdresser and Blair, 29, is a fabric layer and cutter for a clothing company. The de facto pair has been together for three years and has three children from Fail’s previous marriage. "We felt our dreams were becoming reality," the pair say after hearing they have made it. "In just nine weeks’ time, we could be in our brand new home, created by us and designed for our family. “No matter what happens, this is the end of our troubles and the beginning of our future." They will take on Martyn and Sarah Giles, who have two children of their own, and foster four others. This year the teams will not be renovating an old home; rather they will be designing and building a brand new home from the ground up. The build begins next Tuesday when Team Orange and Team Black face their first room challenge - the master bedroom. The teams have 24 hours to take their open framed room and transform it into a masterpiece. Their design ideas and ability to work as a team will be put to the test as time runs out. Dream Home screens on TV2 at 7.30PM on Tuesdays.
