Texas: Shot teen makes incredible recovery

Tue 25 Jun 2013 In: International News

Kristene Chapa has made a miraculous recovery from the shooting which claimed the life of her girlfriend Mollie Olgin A Texas teenager has made a miraculous recovery from severe injuries she suffered in a shooting which claimed her girlfriend’s life. Kristene Chapa and Mollie Olgin were forced down a steep bank in a public park, by a man who bound them and shot them both in the head. They were found nearly nine hours later, and Olgin was dead. Chapa has taken her first steps after months of rehabilitation, and had to learn how to balance, speak without a stutter, sit, smile and stand all over again. The specialist who has treated her says her recovery is miraculous. “I feel like I proved a lot of people wrong,’ has told NBC News, “The doctors who didn't think I was going to make it and the guy who tried to kill me.” Local police say they do not believe the attack was a hate crime, but have not established a motive. They have forensic evidence pointing to one man who is in jail in another state. “There are still times where I find myself scared, wondering if they’re going to come after me,” Chapa also told NBC News. “I’m always looking around, seeing if I recognise anyone.” Chapa says she is still grieving for Olgin, and regrets they fought that night. “Every day I think about her,” she said. “I pray for her, just for her to watch over me.”
