Unity Books readying for another page turner

Mon 24 Jun 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Tilly Lloyd Rainbow Wellington’s annual book review is returning to Unity Books next month, with another ‘high octane’ night of fun promised for book lovers. Unity Books manager Tilly Lloyd says basically the night entails some 30 to 50 GLBTI people gathered up around the shop microphone for wine, cheese and more than a dozen short book reviews, which she says is “a flimsy guise for flirting”. “It’s reasonably high octane but I don’t want to make it sound swotty since we do have a few laughs. The reviews are brief – no more than three minutes - because people are standing. We know this makes the reviews a tad superficial but it’s the only way to contain the evening into a pre-dinner format.” This year’s event will be on Thursday 11 July at 6PM at the Willis St store. Lloyd believes it will be the 12th year the event has run. This year there will be focus on: • Best list of titles for years, greatest number of people wanting to review • Emma Martin will review Aorewa McLeod’s new book WHO WAS THAT WOMAN? And Aorewa McLeod will review Emma Martin’s new book TWO GIRLS IN A BOAT • Author Jared Gulian will be there for Tony Reed’s review of “Moon over Martinborough”, and will donate a bottle of his olive oil for raffle. Entry is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Pay at the door. This will get you into the event, with free nibbles, and two free drinks. Further drinks can be purchased at the bar. Todd of Unity Books is interested in hearing from volunteers to review the books. A copy will be available from Unity for you to review. If you are interested, please contact Todd direct at books@unitybooks.co.nz .
