Claudette Hauiti New National MP Claudette Hauiti will give her maiden speech to Parliament at 5.45PM. The Auckland lesbian and businesswoman was sworn in as a replacement for the errant Aaron Gilmore at the end of last month. “I know it’s a cliché, but it is such an honour and a privilege to be part of John Key’s Government and to be in Parliament – it’s such a historical place. I’m really happy, pleased and proud,” she told GayNZ.com Daily News afterwards. “Grateful to my whanau and many friends making the journey down to be with me,” Hauiti has written on Facebook ahead of the big event today.
