Fire-hit Wingate Club will reopen after repairs

Mon 27 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland’s Wingate Club has suffered extensive damage in a weekend fire, however the venue will eventually reopen. “The fire happened in the dry sauna and has caused extensive damage to the spa/sauna and cruise area as well as extensive charring and smoke damage to the toilet and lounge areas,” a statement from the Avondale sauna reads. “There were no customers on premises and the four staff/family on site were evacuated without any problems, so all are safe. “Investigators and insurance people will be looking at things over the next few days, and once they are completed we should know better how soon we can be running again. “Unfortunately this will not be in the next couple of weeks. Wingate says it will have an update later in the week when it has a better idea about what needs to be done and how quickly it can open again. “We thank all our customers for your support and look forward to re-opening as soon as possible.”
