Iwi CEO selected over Taurima for Labour

Mon 27 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Shane Taurima An iwi chief executive has been selected over the other candidates, who included gay journalist Shane Taurima, to contest the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election for Labour. Labour is the favourites to retain the seat held by the late Parekura Horomia, who held it for 14 years. It has selected Meka Whaitiri to take on Na Raihania from the Maori Party, , Te Hamua Nikora from the Mana Party and the Greens' Marama Davidson. It’s unlikely Taurima will return to political journalism now he has made it clear his allegiance lies with Labour.
