Rainbow Wellington Board gets new blood

Mon 20 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Rainbow Wellington’s Board has had a makeover, with long-time Chair Tony Simpson standing down and four new members being elected. Three Board members stood down in total, and have been replaced by four new representatives. “With both the former Chair and Vice-Chair having retired, and with four new board members, we were aware of the need for continuity,” Secretary Tony Reed has written in a Rainbow Wellington newsletter. “Adrian Sainsbury therefore agreed to act as Caretaker Chair for the time being, and Rawa Karetai was elected as Vice-Chair. “As Adrian is often away, this latter role will certainly be of more significance this year, and help us with succession planning.” Karetai is a former President of Massey University's Albany Students' Association who was heavily involved in the marriage equality campaign, Chairing regular community meetings on the issue and organising the National Marriage Equality Conference last year. Departing Chair Tony Simpson was thanked for his work on the Board at the AGM, as was long-standing auditor and reviewer, James Heslop, who also stood down. “We now have a Board with 50 per cent new membership, so we will report back to you regularly on how we are doing, and what we are up to,” Reed writes. The next Board meeting is on Tuesday 21 May.
