Administrator of the UN’s Development Programme Helen Clark has lauded New Zealand’s marriage equality progress, while making it clear there is still much to be done worldwide. In a special statement to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, the former Prime Minister points to victories in New Zealand and the United States. “Today as we mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, it is tempting to focus on these victories. But so much remains to be done in securing rights for gay, lesbian, and transgendered people, and ensuring they can live lives free from violence, intimidation, and secrecy,” she says.
