MP wants to "sell New Zealand to homosexuals"

Fri 10 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

Maurice Williamson MP Government MP Maurice Williamson says he will only appear on  the internationally screened Ellen TV chat show if the subject of the interview is New Zealand as a gay-friendly country. The USA-based show's producers three weeks ago issued Williamson with an invitation to appear after a video of his pro-marriage equality speech in Parliament went viral. He has indicated that if he fronts up his appearance fee will be given to charity. However, it is reported that while the Ellen show wants the interview to be about the MP as a person he instead wants it to be about New Zealand. Williamson is reported in the NZ Herald as wanting to use the opportunity "to sell New Zealand to homosexuals around the world as an attractive country to visit." Watch this space!
