Pair of queer protests ordered at McDonald's

Fri 10 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News

The Queer Avengers' protest graphic Protests will be held in Auckland and Wellington today in response to a McDonald’s manager telling a staff member to ‘act’ less gay. The manager was forced to apologise, then shunted to another store, which the staff member Sean Bailey does not believe is good enough. He is taking a personal grievance case. Bailey is organising a ‘Turn McDonald’s Gay’ kiss-in protest, which will be held outside the Britomart McDonald’s at 8PM tonight. In Wellington, the Queer Avengers have organised a ‘Queer Recruitment Drive’ at the McDonald’s on Manners St from 5.30PM to 7.30PM. “We're calling on queers and allies to turn McDonald’s on Manners St queer, in solidarity with workers and against all forms of queerphobia and in solidarity with McDonalds workers,” they say. Queer Avengers says is urging people to bring rainbow flags and their cameras, as they make McDonald’s colourful. They say it’s not a kiss-in, and nobody has to lock lips to participate.
