Preparation underway for Pink Shirt Day

Thu 9 May 2013 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

This year's Mr Vintage tee Pink Shirt Day is around the corner once again, with New Zealanders urged to pull on a pink t-shirt to show they are against bullying. The event is held on 17 May, which is also the International Day Against Homphobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. The date is significant because it’s the day the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases in 1990. The Pink Shirt concept came from Canada, when a young boy at a school in Nova Scotia got bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school and some older students decided to show their support of him and opposition to bullying. They bought 50 pink shirts and distributed them to other students in the school to demonstrate their stand, and Pink Shirt Day has now spread across Canada and into other countries such as New Zealand. Mr Vintage has once again created special 'charitee' Pink Shirt Day t-shirts, which can be bought here. Find out more about what’s happening in New Zealand here
