Fri 3 May 2013 In: International News

Members of the Samoan Fa'afafine Association The crime of ‘impersonating a woman’ has been wiped under Samoa’s new Crimes Act. While it has not been enforced by police for decades, the Crimes Ordinance 1961 criminalised 'the impersonation of a female' by any male in Samoa. Roshni Tootooalii Roger Stanley from the Samoa Fa'afaine Association (SFA) said the repeal of the law is worthy of huge celebration. “You are now (today) legally allowed to dress and act like a lady. In other words, we are now once and for all can move around freely and comfortable without the fear of being prosecuted, impersonation is out of the legislation and many other parts of the law that has now made of our lives more easier and worries free.”
