Blake Skjellerup New Zealand Olympian Blake Skjellerup says an NBA player’s public revelation he is gay will change his life. “I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I'm different,’” Collins has written in Sports Illustrated. “If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand.” New Zealand speed skater Blake Skjellerup, who came out in 2010, says he is really excited to hear the news. “I had never heard of Jason before, but reading his story this morning, I feel like I have a new friend,” he says. “Coming out is life changing, it changed my life, and this news will not only change Jason's life, but many of those around him. “With each new law repeal or change, and with each new person who stands up, it brings greater visibility and variety to what being gay means. “LGBT people are everywhere, and with every new story like Jason's that step to full equality and acceptance draws closer.”
