The organiser of a campaign against a Tui billboard has received death threats, and been told she is “a stupid lezzo who needs more cock". Chanel Rulton started the Facebook event ‘Take Down the Tui Sign on the Hutt Motorway’ in response to a billboard which reads “Dad’s new husband seems nice … Yeah Right.” Over the past few days she has been getting death threats and abuse, including calling her a “stupid lezzo who needs more cock", telling her she needs a bullet and stating that “gays should all fuck off and die". Rulton has responded with “now try and tell me these billboards are not creating any harm.” Tui says the billboard is designed to be a topical spin on the age-old situation of a parent's new partner. Opinion in the GLBT community is mixed. In a poll on GayNZ.com, 47 per cent of respondents say the billboard is funny, 41 per cent say it’s lame, while just 12 per cent find it offensive.
